East Side Middle School (MS 114) is a high-performing NYC public middle school (grades 6-8) in Yorkville on the Upper East Side, part of Community School District 2. Its intensive academic program spans mathematics, science, Spanish and humanities, with visual art, dance and physical education for all students and a wide menu of student-choice Friday electives, some student-led. Admission is free and handled through the District 2 middle-school choice lottery on MySchools (priority for District 2 residents; free/reduced-lunch applicants considered first for about 20% of seats), and a free Manhattan Youth after-school program offers sports, clubs, a school musical and homework support. Educational approach

An academically intensive NYC public middle school in Community School District 2 that emphasizes challenging academics, student leadership, and real-world problem-solving. The core program covers intensive study of mathematics; earth, life and physical science; Spanish; and humanities (history, social studies, literature and both fiction and non-fiction writing). All students take visual art and physical education, with dance for 6th and 8th graders, and weekly student-choice electives.
