Privacy Policy

The Foyer (“The Foyer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operated by Digital Nomad LLC, provides an online tool to help families find and compare schools in New York City (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

Information we collect

We collect the following, depending on how you use the Service:

  • Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, a display name, and authentication credentials (managed by our authentication provider). Passwords are stored in hashed form; we never see them.
  • Profile and address. If you choose to add a home address, we store it along with approximate map coordinates so we can show how far schools are from you. You are never required to provide an address to use the Service.
  • Your activity on the Service. Schools you save, notes you write, application-status selections, and comparisons you build.
  • Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address and, if you provide it, your neighborhood, so we can tailor and send the newsletter.
  • Content you post. Reviews, forum posts, and similar contributions, along with the display name shown alongside them. This content is public.
  • Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not collect or store your full card number; we retain limited billing identifiers (such as a customer and subscription ID and your plan status).
  • Usage and device data. Like most websites, we automatically receive information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring links, collected through cookies and analytics tools.

How we use your information

  • To provide, personalize, and improve the Service (for example, computing distances to schools and surfacing relevant admissions deadlines).
  • To create and manage your account and saved schools.
  • To send you emails you have requested, such as the newsletter and deadline reminders. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To process and manage paid subscriptions.
  • To understand how the Service is used, measure performance, and improve it.
  • To maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only as needed to run the Service:

  • Hosting & database: Vercel, Supabase, Cloudflare.
  • Payments: Stripe.
  • Email: Resend.
  • Analytics & maps: Google (Google Analytics and Google Maps).

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public. Content you post publicly (such as reviews and forum posts) is visible to others by design.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to operate core features, and analytics cookies (via Google Analytics) to understand usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality.

Your choices and rights

  • Access, correction, and deletion. You may view and update much of your information in your account, and you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us.
  • Marketing emails. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
  • Account deletion. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us.
  • Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EEA/UK), you may have additional rights over your personal information, including the right to access, delete, or restrict its use, and to lodge a complaint with a regulator. We honor these rights as required by applicable law.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and thereafter as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls at the database level. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

The Service is intended for adults (parents, guardians, and caregivers) and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International users

The Service is operated in the United States. If you access it from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes may be communicated through the Service.
