The Abraham Joshua Heschel School (branded 'The Heschel School') is a coed, pluralistic Jewish independent day school on the Upper West Side, serving Nursery through Grade 12 across two West End Avenue campuses. Founded in 1981 and named for Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, it offers an integrated dual curriculum of General Studies and Hebrew-language Judaic Studies grounded in the values of intellectual inquiry, lovingkindness (hesed), and justice (tzedek). A pluralistic Jewish day school (Nursery through Grade 12) named for Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, dedicated to intellectual exploration, integrity, love of the Jewish people and tradition, and a commitment to hesed (lovingkindness) and tzedek (justice). Dual curriculum of integrated General Studies and Judaic Studies, the latter taught by Hebrew-speaking teachers. Early Childhood is play-based and interdisciplinary ('young children learn best by doing; play is the medium through which children explore and learn'), organized around Jewish holidays, community, and nature themes.
