JCP Downtown's Early Childhood Center is a pluralistic Jewish preschool in Tribeca serving children from about 21 months through Pre-K. Its play-based, emergent curriculum follows children's interests and embeds early literacy, numeracy and social-emotional skills in hands-on play, with weekly Shabbat and Jewish holiday celebrations woven throughout the year for families of all backgrounds. Programs run from a transitional Bridge class through a mixed 3's-to-Pre-K class, with weekly music (with specialist Joanie Leeds), daily art, park visits and after-school enrichment. Admission is by application and scheduled tour, and need-based financial support is available.

Culture & Community

Educational approach
Progressive / Play Based

Play-based, emergent curriculum grounded in the belief that 'play is the young brain's primary vehicle for learning.' Teachers follow children's interests and embed literacy, numeracy, sensory and social-emotional skills in hands-on play, with a strong emphasis on social-emotional growth. Jewish life is woven into the fabric of the classroom throughout the year (weekly Shabbat gatherings, holiday celebrations) within a pluralistic, open Jewish community that welcomes families of all backgrounds.
