The School at Columbia University

The School at Columbia University (TSC) is a coeducational, nonsectarian K-8 independent school in Morningside Heights, founded by and affiliated with Columbia University in 2003. Its admissions are unusual: neighborhood applicants from Community School Districts 3 and 5 are admitted by random lottery (not screened or tested), while children of Columbia faculty and staff enter through a separate track, with enrollment balanced roughly 50/50 between the two. The program is progressive and well-resourced. Financial aid is extensive, aided by University backing (Columbia-employee families receive tuition remission plus a Primary Tuition Scholarship).
