P.S. 89 The Liberty School is a high-performing, zoned NYC public elementary school (Pre-K-Grade 5) in Battery Park City, opened in 1998 and long associated with lower Manhattan's post-9/11 recovery. Its program centers on inquiry, collaboration and independent thinking, with signature fall and spring social-studies and science investigations plus dedicated studio art, music, dance, science, technology, library and PE. State test proficiency sits far above citywide averages. Admission is free and handled through NYC's MySchools (zoned priority for Kindergarten; separate Pre-K admissions), and a robust Manhattan Youth after-school program runs to nearly 6pm.
