La Escuelita is one of New York City's first Spanish dual-language preschools, founded in 2003 and located in St. Michael's Church on the Upper West Side. Children ages 2 through 5 are immersed in Spanish (100% for 2-year-olds, about 90% for older classes) through a play-based, child-led emergent curriculum; no prior Spanish is required. The NAEYC-accredited, non-profit program offers morning, full-day and extended-day schedules across six classrooms, plus weekly yoga and music, a July summer immersion program, and after-school enrichment. Roughly 25% of families receive need-based tuition assistance, and graduates go on to a wide range of public and private kindergartens.
