Sibling & legacy

The Calhoun School is a progressive, coeducational independent school on Manhattan's Upper West Side serving students from preschool (age 2 years 8 months) through 12th grade. Following its 2023 merger with Metropolitan Montessori School, its Lower School offers a distinctive dual-track choice of Montessori or Open Inquiry — the only Montessori program in NYC within a PreK-12 school. Calhoun is known for inquiry-based, student-centered learning, a renowned in-house food program, and a pioneering eco-friendly Green Roof used as outdoor teaching space. Founded in 1896, it enrolls roughly 700 students at a 6:1 student-teacher ratio.
