The Family School is a Montessori school founded in 1975 by headmistress Lesley Nan Haberman, serving children from 18 months through 6th grade at its Turtle Bay campus on East 47th Street (Dag Hammarskjold Plaza), with a sister campus on West 46th Street. Mixed-age Montessori classrooms emphasize independence, hands-on materials and an individualized, advanced academic curriculum, with Spanish integrated throughout the day plus art, music, movement, yoga, chess and public speaking. Families choose from two to five days, half or full day; Extended Day runs to 6:00 PM. A small, international, non-competitive community whose graduates place into leading NYC independent and gifted public schools.
